  • Cloth Hall arcades, seven centuries of trade
  • Two uneven towers, one old rivalry
  • The square that anchors the old town
  • A first, proper look at central Krakow

About this tour

This session crosses the Main Market Square from the Cloth Hall to St Mary's Basilica, one of the largest medieval squares surviving in Europe. You see the stone arcades where merchants have traded for centuries, then the basilica's two uneven towers. It is a proper first look at the square that anchors the whole old town.

We start under the arcades with a short sound check, then cross the square slowly so you can take in its scale properly. I explain the history of both buildings as we go and take questions throughout. A written list of what we covered follows afterwards.

It suits anyone visiting Krakow for the first time and wanting a proper introduction to the square. It also works well before a more detailed session on either building specifically.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Krakow before heading out.

  2. Cloth Hall arcade 21 min

The camera opens beneath one of the Cloth Hall's stone arcades, and I explain how merchants have traded cloth and goods on this exact spot for over seven centuries.

  3. St Mary's Basilica exterior 21 min

We move across the square to the basilica's towers, and I point out the difference in height between them, the result of a dispute between two rival guilds who built them.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Krakow: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Kielbasa and Podgórze, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Warsaw time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
