About this tour
This session covers Hohensalzburg Fortress, one of the largest surviving medieval castles in Europe and the seat of Salzburg's ruling prince-archbishops for centuries. You see the fortress from its approach, the inner courtyard with additions from several building phases, and finally the ramparts view over the old town and the river. It is a close look at the building that shaped the city below it for hundreds of years.
I move through the fortress at a steady pace, explaining each building phase as we reach it rather than covering everything at once. Questions come in throughout, especially about the prince-archbishops themselves, and I answer them as we go. A short list of names and dates follows once we finish.
This suits anyone with a serious interest in medieval architecture and Salzburg's political history. It also works well as a first session for visitors new to the city.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
