Puente Nuevo, the bridge over the gorge
Highlights
- A bridge that took decades
- An earlier version that collapsed
- A chamber once used as a prison
- Two towns joined by one crossing
- The full height, seen from below
About this tour
This session crosses Puente Nuevo and looks at it from below, tracing the story of a bridge that took over thirty years and a previous collapse before this version was finished in 1793. You see the small chamber built into its central arch, once used as a prison, and the sheer scale of the structure from the riverbed path. The three stops cover the bridge from three genuinely different angles.
We begin on the bridge deck with a steady check of the light and the drop, then move to the chamber and finally down to the riverside path, taking the descent slowly. I answer questions about the construction history as we go and send a short timeline afterward.
This suits anyone who wants Ronda's single most famous structure explained properly rather than photographed quickly. It also works well as a first session before exploring either side of the gorge.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Ronda before heading out.
-
The bridge deck 21 min
The camera crosses the stone deck of Puente Nuevo, built more than a hundred metres above the river, and I explain how an earlier bridge on this spot collapsed before this one was finished in 1793.
-
The chamber inside the bridge 21 min
You see the small chamber built into the bridge's central arch, once used as a prison, and I point out the narrow window looking straight down into the gorge.
-
The view from below 21 min
We finish looking up at the full height of the bridge from a path near the riverbed, and I explain why this crossing effectively joins two towns that grew up on either side of the same rock.
-
Your questions 14 min
Time to ask anything about Ronda: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Rabo de toro and La Ciudad, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
