About this tour

This call stays in the old heart of Bath, around the Roman Baths and the abbey that rose beside them centuries later. You see the honey-coloured stone that gives the whole city its colour and hear how a natural hot spring shaped everything built around it. I keep the camera on the details that get missed on a quick pass through.

We start with a sound check and a quick look at the square, then move between the two stops at an easy pace, pausing wherever a detail is worth a proper look. You can ask questions throughout, and I send a short list of what we covered once we finish.

It suits anyone curious about how a Roman spa town became a Georgian one without losing its centre. It also works well for a first look at Bath before a longer visit.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Bath before heading out.

  2. Roman Baths terrace 21 min

You look down over the green-tinted water of the Great Bath from the paved terrace above, the same spring that has fed it for two thousand years, while I point out the Victorian statues added long after the Romans left.

  3. Bath Abbey courtyard 21 min

From the abbey forecourt you see the west front's carved ladders of angels climbing to heaven, a design unique in England, and I explain why the church was rebuilt directly beside the old Roman baths.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Bath: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Sally Lunn bun and Southgate, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in London time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
