The River Ness from three bridges
Highlights
- Three bridges, three different views
- A suspension bridge that gently sways
- The city split by its own river
- Small islands turned into a park
- Inverness explained bridge by bridge
About this tour
This session crosses the River Ness by three different bridges, each giving a different view of the castle, the cathedral and the water itself. You see the main road bridge's wide view, the gentle sway of the Victorian suspension bridge, and the network of smaller footbridges linking the river's wooded islands. Moira explains how each bridge was built for a different purpose.
After a short sound check at the first bridge, the session moves steadily along the riverbank, crossing each bridge in turn, with time for questions throughout. Moira answers as you go and sends a short note afterwards on the best light for photographing the river.
It suits anyone wanting a first orientation to Inverness built around its defining feature. It also appeals to those who enjoy river walks and Victorian engineering.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Inverness before heading out.
-
The Ness Bridge 17 min
The camera looks along the river from the main road bridge, the castle rising on one bank and the cathedral on the other. Moira explains how the river splits the city into two distinct halves.
-
Greig Street Bridge 17 min
Crossing the Victorian suspension bridge, the camera sways gently with the structure itself. Moira points out how the bridge was built specifically to link the working quarter with the town centre.
-
The Islands footbridges 17 min
Further along, a network of small Victorian footbridges links wooded islands in the river. Moira explains how these bridges turned an awkward stretch of water into a public park.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Inverness: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Cullen skink and City Centre and Riverside, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in London time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
