  • An evening closer to a day in Vienna

About this tour

This session covers St Stephen's Square after dark, when the cathedral's floodlit facade looks noticeably different from its daytime appearance. You see the lit stonework and then the Baroque plague column nearby, a monument easy to miss once the daytime crowds have gone. It is a short, atmospheric session rather than a detailed history walk.

I hold the camera steady on the facade for longer than a daytime session would allow, since the light changes slowly rather than all at once. Questions come in throughout, and I answer them as we go. A short note on the best evenings to book follows once we finish.

This suits anyone who wants a calmer, more atmospheric session after a day of busier sightseeing. It also works well as a closing session on an evening in Vienna.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Vienna before heading out.

  2. Floodlit Facade 15 min

You see the cathedral's facade lit after dark, the stonework taking on a different texture than it shows in daylight.

  3. Plague Column Nearby 15 min

The camera turns to the Baroque plague column just off the square, raised after an outbreak and often overlooked once evening crowds thin out.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Vienna: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tafelspitz and Innere Stadt, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Vienna time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking".
