The Temple of Augustus and Hercules Gate
Highlights
- A temple rebuilt after wartime damage
- Where old and new stone meet
- Pula's oldest surviving Roman gate
- A worn relief of Hercules
- Two sites minutes apart on foot
About this tour
This session covers two of Pula's smallest but oldest Roman sites, the Temple of Augustus on the Forum and the narrow Hercules Gate nearby. You see the temple's rebuilt columns up close, with the join between old and new stone still visible, then the worn relief carved into the gate. Both sit within a few minutes' walk of each other in the old town.
We check the connection at the temple, then move to the gate for the second stop, pausing along the way for questions about the Forum around us. I follow up with a short written list once the call ends.
It suits visitors who want the Roman history explained in specific detail rather than in passing. It also works well booked alongside the Arena session for a fuller picture of Roman Pula.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Pula before heading out.
-
Temple of Augustus 15 min
The camera holds on the temple's columned front on the Forum, rebuilt after bomb damage in the Second World War, and I show where the old and new stone meet.
-
Hercules Gate 15 min
We move to the narrow Hercules Gate, the oldest Roman structure left in Pula, and I point the phone up at the worn relief carved into its arch.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Pula: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Fuži with game ragù and Veruda, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
