Stortorget and Storkyrkan, the old town's centre
Highlights
- A square largely unchanged for centuries
- Stockholm's oldest church, explained
- Coronations held here for generations
- Colourful facades, tightly packed
- A compact look at the old town's heart
About this tour
This session covers the old town's main square and its oldest church, from Stortorget's colourful facades to Storkyrkan just beside it. You see the historic centre of Gamla Stan in one compact session. I explain how both spaces have functioned across centuries of the city's history.
We move between the square and the church at an easy pace, since both sit close together. I answer questions on either as they come. The session stays fairly brisk, suited to a shorter visit.
This suits anyone with limited time who still wants proper context on the old town's centre. It also works as a quick addition to a longer Gamla Stan session.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later
Not included

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Stockholm before heading out.
-
Stortorget's colourful facades 15 min
You see the old town's main square, ringed by narrow, brightly painted buildings. I explain how the square's shape and buildings have stayed largely unchanged for centuries.
-
Storkyrkan's exterior 15 min
The camera reaches Stockholm's oldest church, at the heart of Gamla Stan, and I explain its role in royal coronations over the centuries.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Stockholm: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Meatballs (köttbullar) and Gamla Stan, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Stockholm time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
