About this tour
This session looks at Dublin's oldest cathedral and the Viking-age settlement site found just below it. You see the cathedral's Victorian-restored exterior and the modern civic buildings that now stand on the excavated Wood Quay site. It stays outdoors, working from the streets and grounds around both.
After a short sound check outside the cathedral, I walk down toward the river stop by stop, explaining the excavation's significance as we go. I take questions live and send a short note afterwards on the Viking-age finds for anyone who wants to read further.
It suits anyone interested in Dublin's earliest history, and anyone curious about how a major excavation shaped a modern debate over the city's development.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Dublin before heading out.
-
Christ Church Cathedral exterior 15 min
The camera takes in the cathedral's stone facade, and I explain how the current building dates largely to a Victorian restoration over a much older medieval structure.
-
Wood Quay 15 min
You see the site of Dublin's Viking-age settlement below the cathedral, and I point out how excavations here in the 1970s reshaped what is known about the city's origins.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Dublin: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Seafood chowder and Temple Bar, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
