Mandraki Harbour and the Colossus legend
Highlights
- Bronze deer marking a legendary harbour
- The Colossus story, fact versus legend
- Medieval windmills still standing on the quay
- A small fort guarding the harbour mouth
- Ancient legend meeting a working harbour
About this tour
This session covers Mandraki Harbour, the old port marked by two bronze deer at the spot ancient writers associated with the Colossus of Rhodes. Michalis explains what is actually known about the lost statue, separating the legend from the limited evidence. He then walks the quay, showing the medieval windmills and the small fort guarding the harbour mouth.
Michalis checks his connection at the deer statues before walking along the quay, pointing out the windmills and fort as he goes. He answers questions about the Colossus and what little is actually confirmed about its exact location. A short list of facts follows the call.
This suits travellers curious about the Colossus of Rhodes who want the history separated from the myth. It also works well as an easy, flat walk early in a stay.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
