About this tour

This longer session traces the old harbour defences from Tigné Point to Fort Tigné, finishing with a view across to Manoel Island. You see how the fortified headland has been folded into a modern residential quarter, and how the fort's low angled walls were built to cover the harbour mouth. The island across the water adds a second layer of the same defensive story.

I take the three stops slowly since the fort's shape needs explaining from more than one angle, and I leave time for questions about the buildings on Manoel Island before we finish. The pace stays unhurried throughout.

This suits anyone with an interest in how a small headland was defended and then reused. It also suits viewers who enjoy the shift from military history to a modern skyline in the same short walk.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Sliema before heading out.

  2. Tigné Point Headland 21 min

You see the flat headland the Order of St John once fortified, now built up with newer blocks, and I explain how little of the older shoreline survives under the modern quarter.

  3. Fort Tigné 21 min

The camera reaches the polygonal fort at the headland's tip, and I describe why its low, angled walls were considered advanced for their time in defending the harbour mouth.

  4. Manoel Island, across the water 21 min

From the point, the small island across Marsamxett Harbour comes into view, and I point out the old quarantine hospital buildings still standing on its shore.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Sliema: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Ftira (Maltese flatbread sandwich) and Balluta, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Malta time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
