Gdansk Główny, a station worth seeing
Highlights
- A Neo-Gothic facade built to impress
- Painted ceiling panels inside the hall
- Towns once connected to Gdansk by rail
- A station treated as a real landmark
- Grander than a working building needs to be
About this tour
This session looks at Gdansk Główny railway station, a building grander than its working purpose would suggest. You see the Neo-Gothic facade outside and painted ceiling panels inside showing towns once connected by rail. It treats a station as a proper landmark in its own right.
I start with a sound check outside the main entrance, then move inside to look up at the ceiling panels. Questions are welcome throughout, and I send a short note afterwards on the towns shown in the paintings.
This suits anyone interested in railway history or nineteenth-century architecture away from the usual churches and squares. It also works well as a first or last stop, since most journeys through the city pass this way anyway.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

- A short list of places to visit later

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
