Hauptplatz, one of Austria's largest squares
Highlights
- One of Austria's largest enclosed squares
- A plague column common across Central Europe

- A quick orientation to the old town
- A square most sessions here pass through
About this tour
This session covers Hauptplatz, one of the largest enclosed medieval squares in Austria and the centre of Linz's old town. You see the Holy Trinity column at its middle and then the pastel facades ringing the square, several of them rebuilt after wartime damage. It is a short orientation to the square most other sessions here pass through.
I walk the square's edges at an easy pace, explaining the plague column's history near the start since it surprises visitors used to smaller versions elsewhere. Questions come in throughout, and I answer them as we walk rather than pausing the session. A short note on the square's layout follows once we finish.
This suits anyone wanting a quick orientation to Linz's old town before a longer session elsewhere. It also works well as a first booking for a first-time visitor.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Linz before heading out.
-
Trinity Column 15 min
You see the Holy Trinity column at the square's centre, raised after a plague outbreak, a common sight across Central European towns.
-
Hauptplatz Facades 15 min
The camera turns along the square's edges, and I point out the pastel facades that survived heavy wartime damage nearby.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Linz: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Wiener Schnitzel and Pöstlingberg district, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Vienna time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
