The Rheinuferpromenade, a walk built over a motorway
Highlights
- A promenade built over a former motorway
- The waterfront reclaimed from traffic
- A bridge view across the Rhine
- Urban planning, explained on the spot
- A steady walk along reclaimed ground
About this tour
This session walks the Rheinuferpromenade, a riverside path built over a former motorway to open the waterfront to pedestrians. You see the Oberkasseler Brücke across the water and hear how the redevelopment changed the relationship between the old town and the river. It moves along the water at a steady pace.
We walk steadily along the path, and I explain the motorway's removal and the promenade's construction as we go. The bridge view comes about halfway through, and I let the frame rest there. A short note on the redevelopment follows by message.
It suits anyone interested in urban planning and how cities reclaim space from traffic. It also pairs well with the brewhouse session for a fuller old town picture.

Looking across the water, you see the Oberkasseler Brücke, and I explain how the bridge connects the old town to the quieter district on the far bank.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
