The Cube Houses, block by block
Highlights
- Cubes meant to represent an urban forest
- A full block, not a single house
- A pencil-shaped tower completing the design
- The architect's original intention explained
- History behind an unusual skyline
About this tour
This session looks at the Cube Houses as a planned whole rather than a single curiosity, including the tall tower that anchors the design. You see the full row of tilted cubes and hear the architect's original idea of an urban forest. It stays close to one block throughout.
We hold the frame on the row first, then move to the tower base for context on how the two structures relate. I explain the design history in stages and take questions between each stage. A short note on the architect's other work follows by message.
It suits anyone interested in the history and intention behind unusual architecture. It works well as a second look after a first visit to the show cube itself.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Rotterdam before heading out.
-
Cube Houses block 15 min
The camera holds on the full row of cubes, and I explain how the architect intended each one to represent a tree in an urban forest.
-
Overblaak Tower base 15 min
At the base of the tall pencil-shaped tower nearby, I explain how it relates to the cube cluster and completes the wider design.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Rotterdam: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Stroopwafel and Kop van Zuid, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
