Rynek Underground: layers beneath the square
Highlights
- Centuries of history, found beneath a square
- Excavated stalls and roads, layer by layer
- A museum walked straight over daily
- The market square's hidden foundations
- Krakow's history, read underground
About this tour
This session looks beneath the Main Market Square at the excavated foundations now open as a museum. You see the entrance first, then the layered remains of stalls, roads and buildings uncovered during the dig. It is a look at centuries of the square's history that most visitors walk straight over.
We start at the entrance with a short sound check, then move along the walkway above the excavations. I explain what each layer represents as we go and take questions throughout. A written list of the finds follows afterwards.
It suits anyone curious about archaeology or the square's earlier history beneath its current surface. It also pairs well with a session on the square above ground.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

- A short list of places to visit later

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
