About this tour
This session looks closely at the tile panels covering the entrance hall of São Bento station, one of the largest azulejo installations in Portugal. Sérgio, a trained tile restorer, holds the camera on a single battle scene long enough for the brushwork to register properly. A smaller, more everyday panel higher on the wall shows a different side of the same installation.
Sérgio keeps a slow pace throughout, since the tile work rewards patience rather than a quick pass, and checks the light catches the glaze properly on camera. He answers technical questions about the tile-making process as happily as questions about the history depicted. A short note on the installation's scale follows the session.
This suits anyone with a specific interest in decorative art and craftsmanship rather than a general station visit. It also rewards a second look for visitors who assumed they had already seen everything on a quick pass.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Porto before heading out.
-
The entrance hall panels 15 min
The camera holds close on a single azulejo panel depicting a historical battle scene, one of more than twenty thousand tiles covering the station's entrance hall. Sérgio explains the blue and white style typical of this period of tile-making.
-
A smaller detail panel 15 min
Higher on the wall, a smaller panel shows an everyday rural scene rather than a historical event. Sérgio points out the contrast in subject matter between the grand and the ordinary panels.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Porto: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Francesinha and Ribeira, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
