About this tour

This session looks at Place de la Comédie, from the Three Graces fountain at its centre to the oval outline that shapes the whole square. You see why this exact fountain became the city's default landmark and how the square's curve follows the line of walls that no longer exist. It is a short session about one very central, very photographed space.

We spend time at the fountain before stepping back for the full oval, since the shape only really makes sense from a distance. I answer questions about the square's history as they come up. A short note on the buildings around it follows the call.

This suits anyone wanting an orientation to the city before exploring further. It also works well as a first stop before a longer old town session.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Montpellier before heading out.

  2. The Three Graces fountain 21 min

The camera settles on the fountain at the centre of the square, three figures supporting a basin that has become the city's default landmark to arrange around. I explain why so many visitors and locals alike gather exactly here.

  3. The oval outline 21 min

Stepping back, you see the square's unusual oval shape, cafe terraces filling its curved edges on every side. I point out how the shape was set by the old city walls that used to run along this line.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Montpellier: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pélardon and Les Arceaux, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
