About this tour

This session compares the two sides of the Königsallee, the quieter chestnut-lined canal path and the busier shopfront side across the water. You see how each developed a different character over time despite sitting only metres apart. It moves across the boulevard's width rather than its length.

We start on the calmer canal side, where conversation is easier, then cross to the busier shopping side. I explain the street's history in stages and take questions about specific buildings as we go. A short note on the boulevard's development follows by message.

It suits anyone interested in how a single street can hold two very different moods. It also works well as an introduction before exploring the wider city centre.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Dusseldorf before heading out.

  2. Canal side 21 min

The camera follows the canal running down the centre of the boulevard, and I explain how the chestnut-lined path developed differently from the busier shopping side across the water.

  3. Shopfront side 21 min

Crossing to the other side, you see the boulevard's shopfronts, and I explain how the street became known for luxury retail over the course of the 20th century.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Dusseldorf: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Killepitsch (a herbal liqueur) and Altstadt, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.

  • Times are shown in Berlin time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
