Two churches, two stories
Highlights
- Budva's oldest and newest churches
- What actually survives from centuries ago
- A striped facade built generations later
- Two churches, two very different designs
- Religious history across the old town
About this tour
This session pairs Budva's oldest church with one of its newest, built centuries apart on opposite sides of the old town. You see the older church's surviving stonework, then the striped facade of a much later building in the main square. It moves between two very different periods of religious building.
I explain what genuinely survives from the older church's earliest period, since much of it has been rebuilt over the centuries, then contrast that with the later church's design choices. Questions about either are welcome throughout.
This suits anyone curious about how religious architecture on this coast changed over time. It also suits anyone who wants Budva's old town explained through its two churches specifically.

-
Church of Santa Maria in Punta 21 min
You see one of the oldest churches on this stretch of coast, first founded centuries ago and rebuilt more than once since, and I explain what actually survives from its earliest period.
-
Holy Trinity Church 21 min
The camera reaches a striped stone church in the main square, built centuries later than the first, and I point out how differently the two buildings were designed.
-

Time to ask anything about Budva: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Njeguški pršut and Bečići, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Podgorica time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
