Heiliggeistkirche and the divided church
Highlights
- A faint line marking a divided church
- Two faiths under one Gothic roof
- A tower still defining the market square
- Centuries of shared and separate worship
- One building, a complicated history
About this tour
This session looks closely at the Church of the Holy Spirit and the odd history hidden inside it. You see the faint mark of a dividing wall that once split the building between two faiths and the tower that still defines the Marktplatz outside. It stays with one building rather than covering the wider square.
I start inside where the light is best for the stonework, then step back out to show the building in its setting. I answer questions on the church's history throughout and send a short summary afterwards.
This suits anyone interested in Reformation-era history or unusual church architecture. It also works well paired with a broader Marktplatz walk.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
