Liberty Avenue, end to end
Highlights
- Nearly two kilometres, start to finish
- Interwar facades from Lithuania's temporary capital
- Cafes and shopfronts along the way
- A Neo-Byzantine church at one end
- Central Kaunas in one long walk
About this tour
This longer session walks the full length of Laisvės alėja, nearly two kilometres of pedestrian avenue through the middle of Kaunas. You see where the avenue begins near the archcathedral, its interwar facades from the years Kaunas served as temporary capital, and its cafes and shopfronts, finishing at the Neo-Byzantine church at the far end. It covers more ground than my other sessions.
I start with a sound check near the archcathedral, then walk the avenue in sections, pausing at buildings and shopfronts worth a closer look. There is time for questions the whole way, and I send a short map afterwards marking everything we passed.
This suits anyone who wants a proper feel for central Kaunas rather than a single site. It also works well as a first session before choosing which of the avenue's buildings to look at in more depth.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later
Not included

Welcome and sound check 10 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Kaunas before heading out.
-
The Avenue's Eastern End 21 min
You see where Laisvės alėja begins near the archcathedral, and I explain why the avenue was laid out as a straight line through the new town.
-
Interwar Facades 21 min
Partway along, the camera looks up at buildings from the interwar years, when Kaunas briefly served as Lithuania's temporary capital, and I point out the details from that period.
-
The Avenue's Cafes 21 min
Further on, I show the terraces and shopfronts that have lined the avenue for decades and explain how the street's character has changed since independence.
-
St Michael's Church 21 min
The walk finishes at the Neo-Byzantine church built for the Russian imperial garrison in the late nineteenth century, and I explain its unusual place at one end of the avenue.
-
Your questions 18 min
Time to ask anything about Kaunas: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 8 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Šakotis and Senamiestis (Old Town), worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
