About this tour
This session frames Queen's University's Tudor Revival main building from its front lawn before moving to the plainer quadrangle behind it. You see the red brick and pale stone detailing of the public facade, then a much simpler courtyard used day to day by staff and students. Declan explains why the university's founders chose such a deliberately grand style for the front of the building.
After a short sound check on the lawn, the session moves round to the quadrangle, with time for questions throughout. Declan answers as you go and sends a short note afterwards on the building's public open days.
It suits anyone interested in Victorian institutional architecture, and works well for prospective students. It also appeals to those who enjoy grand university buildings generally.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Belfast before heading out.
-
The Lanyon Building 15 min
The camera frames the university's Tudor Revival main building from across its front lawn, red brick and pale stone detailing catching the light. Declan explains why this style was chosen for a mid-19th-century university.
-
The quadrangle behind 15 min
Moving round to the quiet quadrangle behind the main building, the camera takes in a much simpler courtyard. Declan points out how the public face and the working buildings behind it differ deliberately.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Belfast: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Ulster fry and Queen's Quarter, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.

- Times are shown in London time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
