About this tour

This session looks at an artificial geothermal beach built to bring warm water and sea air together on Reykjavik's shoreline. You see the sheltered lagoon and the colder open bay just beyond the breakwater that separates them. It stays along the shore throughout, moving at an easy pace.

After a short sound check by the lagoon, I walk the site stop by stop, explaining how the geothermal system works before pointing out the contrast with the open bay. I take questions live and send a short note afterwards on opening times for anyone who wants to visit themselves.

It suits anyone curious about Iceland's geothermal engineering, and anyone who wants a lighter, more relaxed session by the water.

Included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Reykjavik before heading out.

  2. The geothermal lagoon 15 min

The camera takes in a small lagoon warmed by piped geothermal water, and I explain how the site was built to let people swim in the sea air without the cold of the open bay.

  3. The bay beyond the breakwater 15 min

You see open water past the protective breakwater, and I point out how the contrast between warm lagoon and cold bay is the whole point of the design.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Reykjavik: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Rye bread and 101 Reykjavik, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Reykjavik time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
