Piazza dei Cavalieri, Pisa's other square
Highlights
- A square most visitors skip entirely
- Vasari's later Renaissance redesign
- A facade decorated in sgraffito
- A different century of Pisa's story
- History beyond the tower and cathedral
About this tour
This session moves away from Piazza dei Miracoli to look at Pisa's other major square instead. You see the decorated facade of the Palazzo della Carovana and the wider layout Vasari designed for the Knights of St Stephen. The camera treats the square as a single Renaissance composition.
We spend most of the time on the facade itself, since its decoration rewards a close look most visitors never give it. I explain the square's later political role as we turn across it, and take questions along the way.
It suits anyone who has already covered the tower and wants a different period of the city's history. It also works well as a shorter, focused session on its own.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Pisa before heading out.
-
Palazzo della Carovana 21 min
The camera holds on the Palazzo della Carovana's decorated facade, and I explain how Vasari redesigned the whole square for the Knights of St Stephen in the sixteenth century.
-
Square layout 21 min
Turning across the square, I point out the statue and surrounding buildings that together tell a much later story than the medieval tower nearby.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Pisa: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bordatino (cornmeal and bean soup) and Tramontana, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Rome time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
