San Domenico and the saint's relic
Highlights
- A plain brick basilica, deliberately restrained
- A relic tied directly to a local saint
- History explained in a quiet interior
- A side chapel worth slowing down for
- Two sites connected by one story
About this tour
This session looks at the Basilica di San Domenico and its connection to Santa Caterina's story. You see the plain brick interior of the basilica, and a side chapel explained in relation to the relic it is said to hold. The camera moves calmly through the large, quiet interior throughout.
We move slowly through the basilica since the space itself is large and calm, then pause properly at the chapel to explain its significance. I keep my voice low throughout, and take questions as we go.
It suits anyone interested in Siena's religious history told through a specific site. It pairs naturally with a session on Santa Caterina's home nearby.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Siena before heading out.
-
Basilica interior 21 min
The camera moves through the basilica's plain brick interior, and I explain why such a large church was built with so little external decoration.
-
Chapel of the relic 21 min
In a side chapel, I explain what the basilica is said to hold, and how that relic connects directly to Santa Caterina's own story nearby.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Siena: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Ricciarelli (almond biscuits) and Terzo di Città, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Rome time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

Great tour, small hiccups
Very good overall. The route was lovely, a little more time at the last stop would have been perfect.
How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
