The medieval cellars beneath the old town
Highlights
- A city hidden beneath its own streets
- Cellars connecting buildings across town
- Vaulted chambers built for storage
- Most visitors never realise it exists
- The old town, seen from underneath
About this tour
This session covers Brno's underground, a network of medieval cellars beneath the old town that most visitors never realise exists. You see one of the entrances near the market square, then a vaulted chamber that once stored goods for the buildings above. It is a look beneath the surface of a city most people only see at street level.
I move carefully between the two stops, since the connection underground can be less reliable than on the street. Questions come as we go, and I am happy to repeat a detail if the signal drops briefly. A short note on which sections are open to visit follows by message afterwards.
This suits anyone curious about what lies beneath a historic city centre. It also pairs well with the Freedom Square session for a fuller sense of the old town above and below ground.

Entrance beneath Zelný trh 15 min
The camera descends through one of the entrances into the labyrinth, and I explain how the network of cellars connects buildings across the old town.

A vaulted cellar chamber 15 min
We move through a vaulted chamber, and I describe what these cellars stored centuries ago, before some were converted for today's use.

-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Trdelník and Veveří, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
