About this tour

This call is built around the neoclassical opera house that shaped Paris's own Palais Garnier decades later. You see the colonnade and the statues above it in detail, then the elegant street that runs from its steps. I point out the architectural choices that made this building a model for others.

We start still, on the facade, then move slowly down the street while taking live questions about the theatre's history and influence. I send a short reading list for anyone who wants more after the call.

This suits architecture fans and anyone curious how one 18th-century building shaped a whole quarter. It also works well before an evening call further along the same street.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Bordeaux before heading out.

  2. Colonnade and statues 15 min

The camera holds on the row of columns along the front, and I point out the muses standing above them, each one carrying an object linked to a different art.

  3. Cours de l'Intendance 15 min

You follow the wide street leading away from the theatre, and I explain how the whole area was laid out around the opera house in the 18th century.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Bordeaux: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Canelé and Saint-Pierre, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
