  • An export known before its competitors
  • Finished pieces, examined up close
  • A craft tradition still running today

About this tour

This session covers the Moser Glass Museum and the crystal-cutting tradition it documents, one of the town's exports that most visitors never connect to the spa quarter. You see the museum building, then a cabinet of finished pieces up close. It is a focused look at a craft that has continued here for more than a century.

I start outside the museum and move indoors for the second stop, timing questions around whichever pieces are on display that day. I keep a slower pace here than on a walking session, since the detail rewards a closer look. A short reading list on Moser's history follows afterwards.

This suits anyone interested in craft or design rather than only architecture. It also works well as a quieter session between longer walks.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Karlovy Vary before heading out.

  2. Moser Glass Museum entrance 21 min

The camera takes in the museum building itself, and I explain how Moser's crystal became known abroad long before most of its competitors.

  3. A display of cut glass 21 min

We look closely at a cabinet of finished pieces, and I point out the depth a skilled cutter gets from a single layer of glass.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Karlovy Vary: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Guláš s knedlíky (goulash with bread dumplings) and Rybáře, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Prague time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
