The Racławice Panorama
Highlights
- A giant nineteenth-century cyclorama
- A battle from the Kościuszko Uprising
- Individual figures within a huge scene
- Painting on a circular scale
- A technical and artistic achievement
About this tour
This session looks at the Racławice Panorama, a giant nineteenth-century cyclorama painting depicting a battle from the Kościuszko Uprising. You see the canvas from a distance to take in its scale and then closer, where individual figures emerge from the wider battle scene. It focuses on the painting as a technical and artistic achievement.
I start with a sound check at the viewing platform, then move around describing sections of the canvas in more detail. Questions are welcome throughout, and I send a short note afterwards on the uprising it depicts.
This suits anyone interested in nineteenth-century painting or Polish history from that period. It also pairs well with the call session for a painter's more technical view.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
