Highlights

  • A park built on a former gasworks site
  • Cleaned ground turned into open lawns
  • One structure kept as a visible marker
  • Why the city chose to leave it standing
  • A short walk about reuse, not just nature

About this tour

This session looks at how a heavily industrial site became one of the neighbourhood's main green spaces, keeping one structure as a visible link to its past. You see open lawns where a gasworks once stood and a single surviving piece of that industrial history left standing among the trees. It is a short, calm walk about reuse rather than a nature-heavy session.

We move at an easy pace through the park, spending most of the time at the remaining structure since it raises the most questions. I keep the session short, matching the size of the park itself.

It suits viewers interested in how cities repurpose industrial land rather than traditional nature walks. Local residents often use this session to explain the park's backstory to visiting family.

Included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Utrecht before heading out.

  2. Griftpark Green Space 15 min

You see open lawns and play areas built on a site that produced gas for the city for over a century, and I explain how the ground was cleaned before it could become a park.

  3. Gasworks Remnant 15 min

The camera holds on one surviving structure from the old works, kept as a marker of what stood here before, and I explain why the city chose to leave it rather than clear the site completely.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Utrecht: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bitterballen and Wittevrouwen, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Amsterdam time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
