Place des Quatre Dauphins and Quartier Mazarin
Highlights
- Four dolphins in a quiet square
- A district built on a strict grid
- Mansion fronts behind iron gates
- Aix's calmest corner, on camera
- A short, unhurried square session
About this tour
This short session stays inside Quartier Mazarin, from the fountain at Place des Quatre Dauphins to the matching stone facades of Rue Cardinale nearby. You see the strict grid the district was built on and the quiet that still sets it apart from Cours Mirabeau. It is a small, calm counterpoint to the busier parts of the city.
We spend most of the time between the square and the street just off it, since there is enough detail in the fountain and the facades to fill the call without rushing. I take questions as they come and will linger anywhere someone wants a longer look. A brief note on the district follows afterwards.
This suits anyone who prefers quiet streets to crowded squares and wants a shorter, calmer session. It also works well paired with a longer walk through the old town.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Aix-en-Provence before heading out.
-
Place des Quatre Dauphins 15 min
The camera holds on the small fountain at the centre of the square, four dolphins spouting water into a shared basin. I point out the mansions around it and explain why this district was laid out on a single strict grid.
-
Rue Cardinale 15 min
A short distance on, the camera follows a straight residential street lined with matching stone facades. I explain how the uniform height and width were written into the original seventeenth century building rules.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Aix-en-Provence: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tapenade and Cours Mirabeau, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
