About this tour

This session looks at the connection between Antwerp's Jewish community and its diamond trade, both centred on streets near the station. You see the shopfronts still tied to the business, then stop outside a synagogue that has served the community for generations. It links a religious history to an economic one on the same streets.

We start with a sound check on the main street, since it can be busy during trading hours. I move to the synagogue for the second stop and take your questions about the community's history as we go. A short reading list follows by message afterwards.

It suits anyone curious about how a single neighbourhood can hold both a religious community and a global trade. It also works well paired with a walking session on the wider Diamond District.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Antwerp before heading out.

  2. Jewish quarter streets 21 min

The camera moves along streets near the station where Antwerp's Jewish community has lived and worked for generations, and I point out the shopfronts still connected to the diamond trade.

  3. Synagogue exterior 21 min

We stop outside one of the neighbourhood's synagogues, and I explain the community's long connection to the diamond business here.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Antwerp: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Moules-frites and Het Zuid, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Brussels time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
