About this tour

This session covers Brno's Astronomical Clock and a piece of modern public art nearby, two examples of how the city treats public space today. You see the black granite clock releasing its daily marble, then a contemporary sculpture placed where an older building once stood. It is a short look at Brno's more modern, design-conscious side.

I start at the clock, timing the visit close to eleven when possible, then move to the sculpture for the second stop. Questions come as we go, and I am happy to explain the marble mechanism again if you missed the drop. A short note on other public art around the centre follows by message afterwards.

This suits anyone who enjoys a mix of the quirky and the contemporary rather than only historic buildings. It also works well as a light session between two longer ones.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Brno before heading out.

  2. The Astronomical Clock 15 min

The camera takes in the black granite clock, and I explain why it releases a glass marble to the crowd each day at eleven, matching the cathedral's own noon trick.

  3. A public sculpture nearby 15 min

We move to a piece of modern public art close by, and I explain how the city has used contemporary work to fill gaps left by wartime damage.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Brno: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Svíčková (marinated beef in cream sauce) and Kraví Hora, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Prague time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
