About this tour

This session looks at the traces of Madrid's earlier communities south of the centre, where street names carry more history than any surviving building does. You see Calle de la Fe and the area once associated with the city's Moorish quarter. Almost nothing tangible remains, so the session leans on names, layouts and what little documentation survives.

I move slowly since this history depends on reading small clues rather than pointing at obvious landmarks. I am upfront about what is well documented and what is closer to local tradition than confirmed fact. Questions here tend to lead into longer conversations than in my other sessions.

This suits anyone genuinely curious about the parts of a city's past that leave no trace above ground. It also pairs well with the wider Lavapiés session for more context on the area today.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Madrid before heading out.

  2. Calle de la Fe 21 min

The street name itself, meaning faith, hints at a religious history mostly erased from view today. I explain what little documentation survives about the area's earlier communities.

  3. Corral de la Morería area 21 min

The name references the old Moorish quarter that once stood roughly here, though almost nothing tangible survives. I show you how the street layout still hints at an older, denser pattern than the newer blocks around it.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Madrid: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Churros con chocolate and La Latina, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 7 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
