ASTRA open-air museum by the lake
Highlights
- A lake at the museum's centre
- A village house, moved and rebuilt
- A working watermill, explained
- Rural Transylvania, in one place
- A calm loop outside the city
About this tour
This session walks the ASTRA open-air museum on the edge of Sibiu, an open-air collection of traditional buildings set around a lake. You see the lake itself, a reconstructed village house moved here from elsewhere in Transylvania, and a working watermill. The session covers a single loop of the museum grounds.
We open with a short sound check by the lake. I keep a warm, unhurried pace and take questions about rural Transylvanian life as we go. Afterwards I send a short note on the villages the buildings came from.
This suits anyone curious about rural life beyond the city's squares and towers. It also works well as a longer, calmer session between busier history walks.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Sibiu before heading out.

Arriving at the lake 21 min
The camera opens on the lake at the centre of the open-air museum, and I explain how the site was laid out around it.

We move to one of the traditional buildings moved here from a Transylvanian village, and I describe the household it once belonged to.

The session finishes at a reconstructed watermill, and I explain how it would have been used before it was moved to the museum grounds.
-
Your questions 14 min
Time to ask anything about Sibiu: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Ciorbă de burtă (tripe soup) and Orașul de Sus (Upper Town), worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Bucharest time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
