About this tour
This session looks at one of the oldest botanical gardens in the Netherlands from its gate and perimeter path, tracing its beginnings in 1590 as a garden for the university. You see the garden's tree-lined paths and planting beds from just outside its boundary. It is a session about the garden's history and design rather than a full walk through it.
We move slowly along the perimeter, since there is a genuine amount to see even from outside the gate. I explain the garden's age and original purpose as we walk.
It suits anyone curious about the garden's history before deciding whether to visit themselves. It pairs well with the windmill session for a calmer, greener afternoon.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
