About this tour

This short session focuses on the Roman theatre's two surviving columns and the curved seating still visible around them. You see the isolated columns against the open ruins before a clearer look at the seating's original shape. Mathis explains what the site was used for before its Roman origins were properly identified and protected.

The call opens with a sound check at the columns, then moves a short distance to the seating remains. Mathis keeps things brief and direct, answering questions honestly and moving the session along at a steady pace. A short list of what was shown follows by message afterwards.

This suits anyone with a short window of time and an interest in Roman ruins specifically. It also pairs well with the amphitheatre session for a fuller picture.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Arles before heading out.

  2. Two standing columns 15 min

The camera holds on the theatre's two remaining columns, nicknamed locally for how isolated they look against the open ruins around them. I explain what originally stood behind them before the rest of the structure was lost.

  3. Theatre seating remains 15 min

You see the surviving curve of stone seating, still clearly readable as a theatre despite centuries of loss. I point out how the site was used for other purposes before its Roman origins were properly recognised.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Arles: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Fougasse and La Roquette, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
