Casa de Campo, Madrid's green edge
Highlights
- Centuries-old hunting grounds
- A lake built long before recreation
- Trees replanted after old fires
- The skyline from a quiet rise
- Madrid's largest and greenest space
About this tour
This session covers Casa de Campo, Madrid's largest green space and once the royal family's private hunting ground. You see the Mediterranean woodland near the entrance, the central lake, and a quiet viewpoint with the city skyline in the distance. It is the widest, greenest session I run in the city.
We walk at a relaxed, gardener's pace, since I trained in landscape work and tend to notice plantings more than most guides. I explain the park's layout and history as we move between the three stops. Questions about specific trees or the lake's history both come up regularly.
This suits anyone who wants Madrid's outdoors side rather than its museums and squares. It also works well as a longer, calmer session for viewers with time to spare.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later
Not included
- Internet connection
- Travel to the city
Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Madrid before heading out.
-
The park entrance woods 17 min
The path enters through dense Mediterranean woodland, planted centuries ago as royal hunting grounds. I point out which trees are original and which were replanted after fires damaged parts of the park.
-
The lake area 17 min
A large artificial lake sits roughly at the park's centre, popular with rowers and walkers alike. I explain how the lake was built and what it was originally used for before recreation took over.
-
A quiet viewpoint 17 min
From a rise near the park's edge, the whole city skyline is visible across the river. I show you how the view changes depending on the season and the time of day.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Madrid: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tortilla española and Chueca, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
