The Student Prison, wall by wall
Highlights
- A lock-up for duels and drunkenness
- Walls carved with generations of graffiti
- Student punishment inside a functioning university
- Close reading of century-old handwriting
- A small room with a big history
About this tour
This session goes deep into the Student Prison, a small lock-up used for minor student offences well into the twentieth century. You see the narrow corridor leading in and a cell covered floor to ceiling in carved and painted graffiti. It stays with one building rather than covering the wider university quarter.
I move slowly through the narrow rooms so the details on the walls stay readable on camera. I translate a line or two of the graffiti as we go and take questions throughout.
This suits anyone drawn to unusual, slightly mischievous history rather than grand architecture. It also pairs well with the university courtyard session for a fuller picture.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
