  • A quieter angle on a busy old town

About this tour

This session shows Santiago from Parque da Alameda, a hilltop park just outside the old town. You see a nineteenth century avenue of eucalyptus trees and a clear view of the cathedral towers from a distance most visitors never reach. Antía explains why the park earns this outside-in view of a city usually seen from inside its streets.

The walk climbs gently through the park's paths to the main viewpoint, with Antía timing the session for whenever the morning light is clearest on the towers. She answers questions about the park's history as the path climbs.

This suits anyone who has already walked the old town and wants a different angle on it. It also works well as a calmer session between two busier city ones.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Santiago de Compostela before heading out.

  2. Eucalyptus avenue 15 min

The camera moves along a nineteenth century avenue of tall eucalyptus trees planted when the park was first laid out on the hill above the old town.

  3. Cathedral viewpoint 15 min

From a clearing near the top of the park, the camera looks across at the cathedral's towers rising above the old town rooftops, a view most visitors inside the city never get.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Santiago de Compostela: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tarta de Santiago and Casco Histórico, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
