Franciscan Well: Cork's brewing history
Highlights
- A brewery named for a medieval well
- A Franciscan friary's old water source
- Cork's modern brewing history
- An evening look at the taproom front
- Where a friary once stood in the city
About this tour
This session looks at how a medieval friary's water well ended up giving its name to a modern Cork brewery. You see the brewery buildings and taproom front from the yard and street, with the history of the site explained in the evening light. The focus stays on the building and its story rather than on any drink itself.
After a short sound check we move between the yard and the street front, and I explain the site's two histories, medieval and modern, at each stop. I answer questions live as they come and send a short note afterwards on the brewery's history for anyone who wants to read further.
It suits anyone curious about how an old religious site becomes a modern landmark, and anyone interested in Cork's brewing history.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
