Auerbachs Keller: Faust's cellar, live
Highlights
- Bronze figures from Goethe's Faust
- A cellar restaurant centuries old
- A scene that made a real place famous
- Mädlerpassage's literary landmark
- Leipzig's most storied cellar door
About this tour
This session looks at Auerbachs Keller, from the arcade above it to the restaurant's entrance itself. You see the bronze statues of Faust and Mephistopheles set into the floor of the Mädlerpassage. The session finishes outside the cellar, with the story of the scene that made a real Leipzig restaurant famous well beyond the city.
We start with a short sound check in the arcade. I move slowly between the two stops and take questions about the Faust connection and the cellar's long history as we go. Afterwards I send a short note on the restaurant's history and a couple of its traditional dishes.
This suits anyone interested in Goethe or in the city's older food traditions. It also works well as a lighter session alongside a longer history walk.
Included

- A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
