About this tour
This session walks the Jewish Cultural Quarter and the Plantage, from the Portuguese Synagogue to the Hollandsche Schouwburg and the Auschwitz memorial in Wertheimpark. The guide moves quietly between these sites, explaining their history and pointing out the stumbling stones set into the pavement along the way. It is a serious, unhurried look at this part of Amsterdam's history.
The session opens with a brief sound check before the walk begins, moving between the three stops at a measured pace with time to sit with what is being shown. Questions are welcome throughout, and a short list of names and places follows after the call.
This suits anyone with a personal or historical interest in this period, whether or not a visit to Amsterdam is planned. It also suits anyone who prefers a guide who has walked this route many times before.

Outside the Portuguese Synagogue, the guide explains its story since 1675 and points out its plain brick exterior, built without windows facing the street for security reasons at the time.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
