About this tour

This session covers Círculo de Bellas Artes, from its early twentieth-century facade topped with a statue of Minerva to the rooftop terrace above it. You see one of the widest public views over central Madrid, with the palace, cathedral and Gran Vía all visible from one spot. I explain the building's long history as an independent arts institution along the way.

We spend most of the time on the terrace itself, since the view gives plenty to point out and talk through. I name landmarks across the skyline one by one, checking in on what you can already recognise. Questions about the building's exhibitions and history come up throughout.

This suits anyone who wants a proper overview of central Madrid's layout from above. It also works well early in a trip, before you have walked the streets you can see from here.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

  • Internet connection
  • Travel to the city

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Madrid before heading out.

  2. The building's facade 15 min

The early twentieth-century facade is topped with a statue of Minerva looking out over Gran Vía. I explain the building's role as one of the city's oldest independent arts institutions.

  3. The rooftop terrace 15 min

From the terrace you get one of the widest public views over central Madrid, the palace and cathedral visible in one direction and Gran Vía in the other. I point out landmarks across the skyline one by one.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Madrid: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Callos a la madrileña and Chueca, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
