The isthmus windmill, sea on both sides
Highlights
- Sea on both sides of one strip
- A windmill on the crossing itself
- Why the old town stayed separate
- A daily crossing explained by a local
- Nessebar's geography, made simple
About this tour
This session stands on the narrow isthmus joining Old Nessebar to the mainland, with the old windmill as its central point. You see the wooden structure itself and then the sea visible on both sides of the strip at once, with the isthmus explained as the reason the old town stayed so separate for so long. It stays on this one narrow crossing.
I keep the camera steady in one spot for most of the session, since the view itself does most of the work. Questions about the isthmus and its history come up naturally, and I answer them from a lifetime crossing it daily.
This suits anyone who wants Nessebar's geography explained simply and clearly. It also works well as a short opening session before the old town church visits.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Nessebar before heading out.
-
Isthmus Windmill 15 min
The camera shows the wooden windmill standing on the narrow strip of land, and I explain how it once served the peninsula before the town connected fully to the mainland.
-
Sea on Both Sides 15 min
You see the water on either side of the narrow isthmus, and I point out how this exact spot has shaped Nessebar's isolation for centuries.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Nessebar: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Mussels in white wine and Old Town Peninsula, worth a slower look.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
