Golden Lane and the castle's guards
Highlights
- Tiny houses built into a fortress wall
- Guards and craftsmen, not royalty
- The castle's working history, up close
- A corner most visitors rush past
- Practical life inside a grand complex
About this tour
This session covers Golden Lane and the fortification wall it is built into, a corner of Prague Castle most visitors rush past on the way to the cathedral. You see the lane's tiny houses, then the wall above them and the guards and craftsmen who once lived along it. It is a focused look at the castle's working history rather than its grander halls.
I move slowly along the lane, spending real time on how small and practical the houses actually were. Questions come as we go, and I am happy to explain a specific resident's role again if it is unclear. A short note on the lane's later literary residents follows afterwards.
This suits anyone who has already seen the cathedral and wants a smaller, more human corner of the castle. It also works well paired with the courtyards session.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
