The gorge that draws climbers from across the region
Highlights
- A gorge that narrows just outside the city
- Limestone cliffs that draw climbers regionally
- A village largely unchanged by the traffic
- The Nišava river, followed out of town
- A landscape most city visitors never see
About this tour
This session leaves the city along the Nišava river and follows it into Sićevo Gorge, from the point where the valley narrows to a close look at its limestone cliffs and a small village further in. It stays along this stretch of the gorge throughout.
I keep an unhurried pace on this one, since the scenery does most of the work once we are out of the city. Questions from people who climb or hike themselves are especially welcome, and I answer them in detail.
This suits anyone who wants to see the region's landscape rather than only its old town. It also works well booked alongside the shorter call session for planning an actual visit to the gorge.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later
Not included
- Internet connection
- Travel to the city
Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Niš before heading out.
-
Nišava Riverside Approach 17 min
The camera follows the Nišava river out from the city toward the gorge, and I point out where the valley starts to narrow between limestone walls.
-
Gorge Cliff Face 17 min
You see one of the gorge's tall limestone faces up close, and I explain why climbers travel here specifically rather than to closer, lower cliffs nearer the city.
-
Village Overlook 17 min
The camera looks down over a small village tucked into the gorge, and I describe how life here has stayed largely unchanged despite the climbers passing through each weekend.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Niš: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Niš sudžuk and Niška Banja, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Belgrade time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
