The Teutonic castle the town tore down
Highlights
- Foundations of a castle torn down in 1454
- A town turning on its own rulers
- The uprising against Teutonic control
- A shorter, more dramatic history stop
- What survived, deliberately, and what did not
About this tour
This session looks at what remains of Toruń's Teutonic castle, torn down largely by the townspeople themselves in 1454. You see the surviving foundations and hear the story of the uprising that led to its destruction. It is a shorter, more dramatic side of the town's medieval history.
I start with a sound check by the foundations, then walk the site explaining the uprising and its consequences. Questions are welcome throughout, and I send a short note afterwards on what happened to the Teutonic Order next.
This suits anyone interested in medieval politics or the history of the Teutonic Order specifically. It also pairs well with the cathedral session for a fuller picture of the period.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

- A short list of places to visit later

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
