About this tour
This session covers Ankara Castle from its outer walls to a viewpoint looking down over the modern city. You see stonework built up across several different periods, then the wide view from inside the citadel that shows how far the city has grown around it. The two stops connect the old fortress to the capital it now overlooks.
I begin with a sound check at the base of the walls, then we move up toward the viewpoint while you ask questions about the different building periods. I point out the clearest changes in the stonework as we go. At the end I send a short note on what we discussed.
This suits anyone who wants to see how an old fortress sits inside a modern capital. It also suits a traveller looking for a clear view over the city before exploring further.

The camera follows the thick stone walls built up over Roman, Byzantine and Seljuk periods. I point out where you can tell one period's stonework from another.

From inside the walls, you see the modern city spreading out below. I explain how the contrast between the old citadel and the newer districts tells its own story about Ankara's growth.
